Course description

Learn all of the different aspects of full stack JavaScript development using the MEAN stack. We're not talking about any generators or MEAN frameworks here, we're talking about a full understanding of MongoDB, Express, AngularJS and Node.js. Throughout this course we'll show you how to use each of these technologies, and how to use them together.

I'm currently taking a ten week immersive course on JavaScript using the MEAN stack. I've looked through a lot of online tutorials and for the MEAN stack and this is the best start covering the Node and Express portions.

Build Great JavaScript Applications using MongoDB, Express, AngularJS and Node.js

The overall aim of the course is to enable you to confidently build all different types of application using the MEAN stack.

To do this, the course is divided into four sections, each section focusing on a different goal. The four sections all work together building a full application, with an overall outcome of showing how to architect and build complete MEAN applications.

The breakdown of sections looks like this:

1. By the end of section one you will be able to set up a web-server using Node.js and Express, to listen for requests and return responds.
2. By the end of section 2 you will be able to design NoSQL databases and work with MongoDB from the command line and from Node and Express.
3. After section 3 you will be able to design and build robust REST APIs using Node.js, Express and MongoDB, following industry best practices.
4. By the end of section four you will be able to build high quality AngularJS single page applications (SPAs), following industry best practices.
5. When you have finished with section five you will able to add authentication to the MEAN stack, enabling users to log in and manage sessions.

This is really awesome. Simon (instructor) takes a great deal of time to explain various things about the code which makes sure we understand everything. There are no shortcuts anywhere or copy-paste of code. A lot of effort is taken to type every single line of code during the lessons and all the concepts are explained in depth. Along the way there are various activities, so you can be has hands on as you like. You'll get the most out of the course if you follow along and code as you go, but if you want to speed through it the source code is supplied with each video (where relevant).

What are the requirements?

• You should be familiar with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• You will need a text editor (like Sublime Text) or IDE (like Webstorm)
• You will need a computer on which you have the rights to install new software

What is the target audience?

This course is meant for anyone who wants to start building full stack JavaScript applications in Node.js, AngularJS, Express and MongoDB. It starts from the basic concepts of each technology, so user's experienced in a particular area will be able to speed through these sections. This course assumes you have some JavaScript knowledge, and does not teach JavaScript itself.

I learned so much from the very first videos. He goes in depth without overwhelming you or assuming any knowledge beforehand without at the same time pulling any punches or babying his audience. I'm enjoying this so far!

FAQs

What if I have questions during the course?

Inside the course there is a discussion forum when you can ask questions, and see what conversations others have already had. The course instructors get notifications of new questions and you'll normally get a response within one working day.

Is this Angular 1 or Angular 2?

This course uses the latest stable version as of mid-2016, which is Angular 1.5.

Will I be tested as I go through the course?

Yes, we have a quiz per section in which you must score 75% or higher for it to be considered a pass.

Can I get a certificate?

Yes. If you complete the whole course you will be issued with a certificate to save, print, add to your LinkedIn profile and generally show off on social media! To complete the course you must have seen all of the video lessons, opened the links to the downloads and activities and scored more than 75% on each of the five tests.
